The 400 pops up everywhere, especially with the Native American Tribes. Here are a just a few examples.
In the region where the Eclipse marks the "x" or the "Tav" are were the Kaskaskia Indian tribe were found.
These Indians were encountered by a French Fur Trader and a Jesuit Priest from Canada who came down the Mississippi River into the area during the 1600s. Later, these Indians and the French would form a town together called Kaskaskia.
In 1715, we find our first reference to 400 with this tribe, but it will not be the last. In the same year that the Spanish Treasure Fleet sunk during a hurricane off of the Florida's "Treasure Coast," a visitor would enter Kaskaskia and note in a journal that there were about 400 good men there.
Then, the Indian chief, Pontiac (yes, the one for whom the car brand was named after), visited the area. He came to solidify the Kaskaskia and the Peoria confederacy in joining his cause against the invading white people. Pontiac did not come alone, however, because he brought with him an accompaniment of 400 warriors.
The Kaskaskian peoples refused to join his crusade.
Later, a Peoria warrior would kill Pontiac bringing the wrath of Pontiac's people against the Kaskaskian tribe in an effort to wipe out the tribe.
Another 400 "Little Egypt" Reference
The Coosa chiefdom (Native American Indians) had their capital located in a region now known as the "Little Egypt" site in Georgia.
The chiefdom ruled a territory spreading 400 miles along on the Appalachian Mts. They had 8 villages. The area was destroyed in 1972 with the creation of a dam.
In the 400th anniversary of America, a sign appears, as the nation who ruled 400 miles of territory would vanish at the same time that the English settlers would set foot in Plymouth, 400 years ago.
