The role of twenty-one in history is not just interesting; it is critical. Let’s dig in to find what the Lord would say to us about this number.
In some scenarios, twenty-one has extraordinary interplay with historical figures like a certain French King.
Kings and 21
For Louis XVI, this number would become a date upon which most of his life events would fall.
Just for starters, he became engaged on January 21, 1770, and there is our first intersection with a “21”. He married six months later to the day on June 21, 1770, so we see the second occurrence; still, there are more.
He made laws concerning the suspension of a specific tax on January 21, 1782. On another date, January 21, 1784, a giant ‘obelisk of snow’ was raised for him on the palace grounds. Louis XVI was arrested on June 21, 1791.
Yet, even more exists for him as his monarchy was abolished on September 21, 1792, and then hanged on January 21, 1793.
His entire life revolved around the number twenty-one.
But there are other more impressive interactions holding prophetic keys for us today. Consider the following.
The Nation of 21
Have we ever counted how many letters are in “United States of America;” yes, there are 21 letters in our country’s name. Another way to say this is “the nation with twenty-one letters in its name,” which directly refers to America.
The above will be essential to remember later.
In America’s 21st year
In the Year 1797, America became a mature nation. Subtracting the Year 1797 from the year of its birth, we realize that the United States was 21 years old in that year.
1797-1776=21
In the year of its maturity, America launches its first naval vessel, the USS United States. On the 21st of October in the same year, it launches the USS Constitution from Boston Harbor to deal with Muslim pirates of the Barbary Coast near Tripoli. The oft-quoted line originates from this. ”From the Halls of Montezuma to the shores of Tripoli…“
This is the year America began to defend its sovereignty as a nation. Up to that time, it fought to become a country, but now in its 21st year, it begins to protect itself.
In the 21st year, the nation, with twenty-one letters in its name, launched its defense of the Constitution on a 21st day, with a ship named Constitution.
Choosing Governments In The 21st Year
On March 4 of that year, the United States of America swears in John Adams as the 2nd President.
The selection of a “next” president was one of the most vital appointments in American history:
George Washington was offered to be made King, but he refused and stepped down from the president’s role. Another would take his place. John Adams, the man who would secure a long line of elected presidents, was put into office on March 4, 1797.
On the only calendar date with a command (“March Forth“), the country with 21 letters in its name, selected its future type of government, in its 21st Year.
That singular action meant Americans would never give rise to a king but only produce presidents. This was the form of government the people chose in their age of majority or their 21st Year.
America and 21
There are many crossroads of America with the number twenty-one. It is the original voting age, the age of majority, the age of adulthood, a tradition steeped in our nation: the twenty-one steps by guards who serve at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, and, of course, the 21-Gun Salute.
Prophetically declare that “this is the 21st year!”
