In America today, when a person reaches the age of twenty-one, they are legally an adult, recognized as having attained full maturity.
The Age of Majority
During our current election cycle, constant bombardment occurs with the term “majority.” The “majority” has voted, or the “majority” wins, or the house “majority” leader, etc.
But did we know that when a person turns twenty-one, they are declared to be at the age of majority? This phrase “age of majority” is linked to the term “coming of age” and has ties with the other similar name “legal adult.” Its definition is the “threshold of adulthood” as recognized or “declared by law.” This is the moment when minors cease to be considered as such, assuming full legal control over their persons, actions, and decisions, thus terminating the authority and legal responsibilities of their parents or guardian over them.
21 is when we get to choose our future path.
Said another way, this is when we legally can stand on our own and not be ruled over by others. A time when legal restraints are fully accountable in our hands, and we can begin to choose our form of government, code of laws, and ethics we will live.
Another example is the voting age, which before the 1970s was twenty-one in the U.S., as was the age of majority in all or most states. This voting age is prophetic since we just had an election season that affected our 21st Year.
When a person turns twenty-one in the United Kingdom, they are said to have reached maturity and are given “the key to the door.” Though this is an older custom, it also retains a prophetic decree that now we have the power to access the key to open or close the door. It is now in our hands as we have reached the age of majority.
God and we are the majority. Our decisions stand, and if we submit ourselves to the Lord, then all our decrees will be righteous and just.
This is the 21st year of the new millennium. After 9/11 and the twenty years which have followed, we are now in our 21st Year. In the election cycle, which seems so “rigged” and “usurped” from us, we still can choose our future path. We are no in the majority with God as a legal adult. We can agree with God’s word, and it counts effectively, which is why the prayer of a righteous man (or woman) avails much.
We will start to use this phrase as a prophetic decree. We will declare it with wisdom, understanding and mix it with faith.
